Today, I lost a role model, a comrade, a colleague, an inspiration, and most importantly, a very very dear friend, Aalok Modi.

Still waiting for the reality to set in, all I could do is replaying every moment we've spent together, reminiscing your gentle smile and your words of wisdom and encouragement that saved the world from misery and sadness over and over again. The matter of fact is, we love you, Aalok; words can't express the joy that we feel for having you as part of our lives. We need you, Aalok; tears can't illustrate how much we're lost without you.

If it means anything to you at all, you were the kindest person that I know, who possessed a mind that makes Einstein jealous, a heart bigger than that of Gandhi, and the work ethic and dedication that can build 10 Egyptian pyramid, 10 Great Walls of China, and 10 Colliseum all in one day. Aalok, you were supposed to be the greatest doctor in the history of mankind, to produce cure for cancer, AIDS, and other terminal diseases. You were supposed to invent the next big idea, to be the next memorable politician; your mission here is not finished...You can't leave now, tell me that you're not leaving, please......

But I understand, I do. In the short 21 years that you'd granted us, you brought us hope, making us hopeful that the fruits of all our work will payoff in the end. You'd given us courage, courage that we need to conquer all road blocks head-on. I'm thankful as I'm lucky to be your friend...

I cannot lie; It saddens me to say goodbye to you as our story of this life comes to an end. However, I'm confident that we will continue our friendship in the next life. As the movie Gladiator quotes, "We shall meet again, but not yet, not yet..."

Rest in Peace, Aalok S. Modi

Jump Rope for Heart, which consisted of 221 students, raised $10,532.82.  The money was donated to the American Heart Association in Aalok’s honor and memory.  This donation will go towards the education about ARVD.

A letter from the coordinator of “Jump Rope for Heart”

I am very proud of you gentlemen for what you are achieving and what you will achieve in realizing Aalok's vision. Aalok was one of my favorite kids of all-time.  He was  hard-working, nice, and well-behaved.  I talked with him a few years ago when Team Physics came to Fairfield Elementary School to put on their program for the kids.

I wanted to let you know that I would like to partner with Eternal Cheer in helping realize Aalok's vision. We at Fairfield Elementary School did "Jump Rope For Heart" during the week of March 3- March 7 and students were taught "heart healthy" concepts during the month.  We had 221 students raise funds for the event.  We raise $10,532.82 for the American Heart Association.  We donated the money to the American Heart Association in Aalok's honor and memory and requested that the money should go to specifically be used to do education about ARVD  The American Heart Association representative is working with me to try to make that happen.

Thank you for the wonderful thing that you are doing to make a difference!

Sincerely,

Mr. Joe Harris

Physical Education Teacher

We cannot forget the day we all heard about Aalok’s death.  On a Thursday night, we were all enjoying the company of our friends or studying for exams.  When our parents called with the news all we wanted to do was get to Pickerington and be with our families.

One year later, the memory of Aalok’s death only motivates us more to reach our goals and carry on his legacy.
